Gemaakt uit geglazuurd vuurvast keramiek, straalt dit robuuste object eenvoud en karakter uit. De rechthoekige vorm is versierd met intaglio lineaire stippen en draagt aan beide zijden de naam “Chauffeuse”, waarvan één zijde is afgewerkt met een kroonmotief. Discover a rare piece of folk history with this authentic French bedwarmer, known as a “Chauffeuse”. Made from glazed fireproof stoneware, it radiates simplicity and character. Originally used in modest households across Limburg, Germany and especially France (Alsace and Lorraine), this flat ceramic brick was heated in the fire and placed in the bed during freezing winter nights.

The rectangular form is decorated with intaglio dotted lines and bears the name “Chauffeuse” on both sides, one of which features a crown motif. Two central holes allowed the stone to be lifted from the fire with a poker. The worn glaze around these openings reveals decades of genuine use and enduring charm.
